Security Directive

Katz Orders Action Against Gaza Incendiaries

Defense Minister instructs military to take all necessary steps to prevent incendiary devices from reaching Israeli communities near Gaza border

Israel Katz

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Sunday that he has directed the Israel Defense Forces to take forceful action against the launching of balloons, kites, and drones from Gaza toward communities near the border. The directive follows a series of recent incidents in the Gaza envelope area, the cluster of Israeli towns and villages within several kilometers of the Gaza Strip.

According to Katz, the IDF has been instructed to employ all necessary measures to stop the launches, including targeting Hamas leaders responsible for the operations and those carrying them out, evacuating neighborhoods and areas from which the devices are launched, and acting against terrorist infrastructure at those locations.

"I have instructed the IDF to act immediately and forcefully against any phenomenon of launches from Gaza toward communities in the western Negev," Katz stated. "We view every launch as a wartime action in every respect - and we are committed to the absolute defense of Israeli communities."

"A balloon is treated the same as a kite, and a kite the same as a drone, whether carrying explosives or not," he added. "We will not allow a return to the reality that existed before October 7, and anyone who organizes, launches, or enables these attacks will be dealt with immediately and with full severity."
