In a bold escalation of its campaign against Iran, Israel deployed approximately 50 fighter jets to strike Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure and military targets overnight, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced.

The operation, part of “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted over 80 sites, including the Iranian Defense Ministry headquarters, the Sepand nuclear project facility, and locations concealing Iran’s nuclear archive, guided by precise intelligence from the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate.

Since the operation began on June 13, the IDF has hit over 170 targets and 720 military infrastructures across Iran in less than three days, aiming to dismantle critical components of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. “The IDF continues to intensify its efforts to neutralize the Iranian nuclear threat, striking at its core,” the IDF spokesperson stated, emphasizing the goal of degrading Iran’s ability to produce nuclear weapons.

The strikes follow a wave of Iranian missile attacks on Israeli cities, which killed at least 1o people, including four daughters of the Khatib family in Tamra, and injured 385, with seven in serious condition, per Israel’s Ministry of Health. Iran’s barrages, involving some 200 missiles, were a response to Israel’s initial strikes, which killed senior Iranian officials, including IRGC Commander Gen Hossein Salami, and targeted energy sites like the South Pars gas field, leaving 78 dead, including 29 children, according to Iranian reports.

Israel’s campaign, helped by a covert Mossad operation smuggling explosive-laden drones into Iran to disable air defenses and missile launchers, has given its air force significant operational freedom over Tehran. The IDF’s sustained offensive, coupled with Iran’s threats to escalate attacks and potentially close the Strait of Hormuz, has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict with global economic repercussions. As both nations brace for further hostilities, the stakes continue to rise.
