After a brief two-day respite from the rain, the Israel Meteorological Service (IMS) issued an urgent public warning on Wednesday, calling for heightened vigilance as a powerful wind system moves into the region.

"A day of exceptionally strong winds lies ahead," the IMS stated, advising the public to exercise extreme caution in the coming hours.

According to the updated forecast, easterly winds will gradually intensify throughout Wednesday evening and continue through Thursday evening. The north of the country is expected to bear the brunt of the weather system, with wind gusts ranging from 70 to 85 km/h, and isolated gusts potentially reaching 100 km/h.

Strong winds are also forecast for the central mountains, the Shfela (lowlands), the Negev, and the eastern valleys, though the intensity in these areas is expected to be somewhat lower than in the north.

The IMS warned that the extreme conditions pose tangible risks. "Due to the strong winds, there is a danger of falling trees and utility poles, as well as potential injury from flying objects," the service cautioned.

Looking forward, Thursday will remain cloudy with high-altitude clouds and a chance of light rain, primarily in the north. Local rainfall is expected to continue in the northern region on Saturday. However, relief is on the horizon: the beginning of next week is expected to bring a break in the precipitation and a rise in temperatures.
