An Israeli man was killed overnight Monday in a fatal motorcycle accident on the Thai island of Koh Samui, according to reports from the Zaka international rescue organization.

The victim has been identified as Shai Hanania Pinto, 51, a resident of the Uman communal settlement in the Gilboa Regional Council. Pinto was on holiday in Thailand with his wife at the time of the crash.

According to Zaka, the accident involved two other vehicles and a shuttle van. Pinto sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other Israelis were reported injured or involved in the incident.

The circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by Thai authorities, who have not yet released an official statement.

Pinto is survived by his wife and two children. The organization "Menuchah LaAd" is currently coordinating with Thai officials to release his remains and arrange their repatriation to Israel. A funeral date has not yet been set and is expected to be confirmed once bureaucratic procedures are completed.

The tragedy marks the second Israeli fatality in Thailand in less than two weeks. Last week, Staff Sergeant Rostislav Noam Merson, 23, of Nahariya, a serving member of the Israeli Air Force, was killed in a separate fatal accident while also on holiday in Thailand. He was buried on Wednesday.

In a further blow, last month six Israelis were injured in a road accident near Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. One of the victims, a 23-year-old man named Yuval, was flown back to Israel in critical condition and subsequently died from his injuries.

Thai authorities and Israeli tourism officials have long flagged the dangers facing Israeli tourists on the island, with the majority of fatal incidents linked to inexperience on motorcycles, a lack of familiarity with local traffic laws, and road conditions that differ significantly from those in Israel.
