Jerusalem Terror Attack: Multiple Casualties in Ramot Shooting

A suspected shooting attack has been reported at Ramot Junction in Jerusalem.

At least two terrorists reportedly opened fire with automatic weapons at a bus and a crowded hitchhiking station. Some reports say the terrorists boarded bus #62 and started shooting.

The terrorists were armed with a homemade "Carlo" submachine gun and a pistol.

Eyewitnesses describe the shooting as taking place on a bus that was caught in an unusually heavy traffic jam, which stretched for hundreds of meters. The attackers reportedly opened fire on the bus as it sat stationary in the gridlock.

It's possible that Egged inspectors provided assistance to the terrorists.

Initial reports indicate there are over 15 casualties.

According to a statement from an MDA spokesperson, medics and paramedics declared the deaths of the four victims at the scene. The fatalities include a man in his 50s and three men in their 30s.

In addition, a 50 year-old woman tragically passed away, as reported by Shaarei Tzedek hospital.

Another people recently passed away as a result of his/her injuries, bringing the current death toll to 6.

In addition to the confirmed deaths, MDA teams are treating and evacuating five victims in serious condition with gunshot wounds to Jerusalem hospitals. A number of other people are being treated for light injuries from glass shards.

Emergency medical services are trying to save the lives of three of the wounded, which might include children.

One of the wounded is a woman, currently in her 8th month of pregnancy, with her first child.

Two armed Israelis neutralized the assailants, one of whom was also shot.

One of the individuals who neutralized the terrorists has been identified as a Haredi yeshiva student. The other person is a soldier from the Haredi "Hasmonean Brigade."

The yeshiva student had only received his gun license a few months ago, a development made possible by his residency in a community that qualifies for such permits.

The story of the weapon itself, according to reporter Shilo Freed, is one of a family chain. The pistol originally belonged to the hero's grandfather, a police volunteer, who gave it to his older brother. The brother, a United Hatzalah medic, recently received a new gun along with all volunteers in the organization, and he passed his grandfather's pistol on to his yeshiva student brother, who used it to save lives.

Police forces are conducting extensive searches in the area and have sealed off the sector in a search for additional terrorists.

Avi Swissa, a paramedic and spokesperson for the religious-Haredi sector of United Hatzalah, provided an eyewitness account of the attack.

"I was driving at the junction when I heard the sounds of gunfire," Swissa said. "This is a very difficult scene. Some of the casualties are unconscious. Large forces of United Hatzalah are on the scene providing initial medical assistance to the wounded."

The Bus Drivers' Organization in Israel, which brings together most of the country's drivers, in response to the shooting attack on a bus in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem: "This is a very difficult incident that could have been much more difficult thanks to the driver's resourcefulness. For the terrorists, buses are a symbol of power, and that is why they are shot at again and again. The drivers' organization calls on the government to immediately restore security to buses throughout the country. The writing has long been on the wall. Following the terror attack, security crossings in the Jerusalem envelope have been closed, with no entry or exit permitted.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently holding a joint situation assessment with the Israel Police to clarify the details of the attack and identify the terrorists.

Reporter Hillel Biton Rosen has provided an update on the identities of the two terrorists: they were "shabakhim," a Hebrew term referring to individuals who are in Israel without a valid permit. One of the terrorists was a resident of the village of Kubeibeh, and the second was from the village of Qatanna, both located in the Binyamin area of Judea and Samaria.

In a new development, security sources have provided a first look at how the terrorists infiltrated Israel to carry out this morning's attack

. According to the report, the assailants crossed into Israel this morning from the Atarot-Dahya area. They reportedly jumped the fence from the direction of Ramallah, entering Israel and driving a distance of only seven minutes before arriving at Ramot Junction where they carried out the attack.

A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of assisting the terrorists in today's attack.

Jerusalem's Mayor Moshe Leon has arrived at the scene.

Upon his arrival, Mayor Leon issued a statement mourning the victims and praising the quick actions of those who responded to the attack.

“My heart is pained and grieved by the terrible murder of innocent people in our city,” Mayor Lion said. “Our thoughts and hearts are with the families of the murdered, and our prayers are for the recovery of the wounded.

“I strengthen those who acted with speed and determination and saved additional lives. In the face of murderous terror, Jerusalem will continue to stand strong and united, pain will not defeat hope.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have imposed a closure on four villages in the Binyamin area following this morning's terror attack.

The villages of Qatanna, Bidu, Beit I'nan, and Beit Duqu, all located in the "Jerusalem envelope" near Mevasseret Zion, have been sealed off.

In Jerusalem, the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman, Boaz Bismut, declared a break in a Knesset discussion to receive an update on the attack.

Benjamin Netanyahu is conducting a situational assessment.

After he arrived at the scene, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, vowing to "destroy Hamas and release all of our hostages" while also admitting a security failure.

He said, "In Judea and Samaria, this morning, unfortunately, we did not thwart the attack."

Hamas has officially praised the terror attack at Ramot Junction, while a dramatic eyewitness account claims the bus driver fled the scene moments before the shooting began.

In a statement, the Hamas movement welcomed what it called a "heroic and high-quality operation" carried out by "two Palestinian resistance fighters." Hamas claimed the attack was a "natural response" to Israel's "crimes" and its "war of annihilation" in Gaza, calling it a message that Israel's actions "will not go unpunished."

The statement came as a witness gave a dramatic account to Channel 14 news. "The driver got out of the bus before the shooting spree, talked on the phone, came back to get his things, and ran away," the eyewitness said. "Immediately after that, the terrorists entered."

The Israel Police have released a comprehensive update on this morning's terror attack, confirming that a number of people were killed and crediting a soldier and several civilians with neutralizing the two assailants.

According to the official police spokesperson, the attack occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. at the Ramot Junction, where two terrorists arrived and opened fire on people waiting at a bus station.

In response, a soldier and a number of civilians at the bus station engaged the terrorists, shooting and neutralizing them on the spot. Their deaths were confirmed at the scene.

A number of people were killed in the attack, and several others sustained injuries of various degrees, according to medical officials.

Large police forces from the Jerusalem District were called to the scene, where they assisted in evacuating the casualties and secured the area. They seized several weapons used by the terrorists, including firearms, ammunition, and a knife.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, Police Deputy Commissioner Avshalom Peled, and the Jerusalem District Commander are at the scene and conducting a situation assessment.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said that troops were dispatched to the area to conduct searches for suspects in cooperation with the Israel Police. In parallel, IDF forces are now encircling several villages on the outskirts of Ramallah to thwart terror activity, while also carrying out interrogations and searches in the area.
