Something is Brewing

Why Netanyahu is Really Racing to Washington

An unscheduled emergency flight, a massive U.S. armada, and a closed-door meeting that could change history. As Netanyahu races to Washington to meet Trump, three explosive theories emerge: Is this a final plea for action, or is the "war room" already being prepped for a strike on Iran?

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s sudden departure for Washington on Tuesday has ignited a firestorm of speculation, with many in the Israeli media labeling it an "emergency mission." The trip was organized at lightning speed, coming just hours after reports surfaced of successful negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, marks the seventh time Netanyahu will sit down with President Donald Trump, a level of access granted to very few world leaders. Against the backdrop of a massive U.S. naval armada currently stationed off the Iranian coast, three primary theories are circulating about what will happen once the doors of the Oval Office are closed.

1. The Mission to Persuade

Standing on the tarmac before boarding "Wing of Zion," Netanyahu offered the official Israeli version of events: he is heading to D.C. to lay down Israel's "red lines" regarding Iran.

"I will present the President with our principles for negotiations," Netanyahu told reporters. "These principles are vital not only for Israel but for anyone who desires peace and security in the Middle East."

Under this theory, Netanyahu is traveling to convince a seemingly "cooling" Trump that negotiations with Tehran are a dead end, merely a stalling tactic used by the Ayatollahs to prepare for an inevitable conflict. If the President’s recent praise for the diplomatic process suggests he is hesitant to strike, Netanyahu’s goal is to steer him back toward a military resolution.

2. The Strategic Coordination

A more optimistic theory suggests that Netanyahu and Trump are already "of one mind." In this scenario, the current U.S.-Iran negotiations are a sophisticated deception intended to gain international legitimacy or distract the Iranian regime.

If this is the case, the meeting isn't about persuasion, but preparation. The two leaders are likely gathering to:

3. The "War Room" Theory

The most extreme theory, one that sounds like the plot of a political thriller, is gaining traction among some Israeli analysts. Given Donald Trump’s penchant for the dramatic and unconventional, some speculate that Netanyahu is being flown in to be physically present at the White House operations center when a strike is launched.

"Trump simply wants Bibi by his side in the White House Situation Room when the attack on Iran begins," suggested one Israeli commentator.

According to this view, the planning is already finished and the persuasion is over. Netanyahu’s presence would serve as a historic display of an unprecedented alliance and a show of "iron strength" against the Iranian regime.

As with everything involving President Trump, the reality could change by the hour. Whether this is a final plea for action or a final countdown to a combined operation remains to be seen.
