HaGaon Rabbi Haim Illouz ztz”l Passes Away at 95
Baruch Dayan HaEmet: HaGaon Rabbi Haim Illouz zt”l passes away at 95. The righteous sage from Modi’in Illit leaves behind hundreds of descendants following the path of Torah.

The Torah world was plunged into mourning Sunday morning upon learning of the passing of the righteous and humble Gaon, Rabbi Haim Illouz zt”l. He was 95 years old and passed away in his sleep (Mitat Neshika) on Motzaei Shabbat.
Rabbi Illouz had grown physically weaker in recent times, yet he made every effort not to burden those around him. Known for his glowing countenance, he always responded with exceptional humility that all was well, thanking anyone who inquired after his health.
Just last Thursday, the family gathered to celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of his youngest grandson. On Sunday morning, however, it was discovered that he had returned his soul to its Creator during the night, quietly and with the same purity that defined his entire life.
A Life of Torah and Sacrifice
Rabbi Illouz was born in Nisan 1931 (5691) in Morocco. After immigrating to Israel, he married Rebetzin Alice (may she live and be well) and settled in Moshav Yad Rambam.
He was known for his immense self-sacrifice regarding the education of his 12 children. He fought tirelessly to ensure all his sons studied in holy Yeshivas. His efforts bore fruit, and today, all his children, along with hundreds of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, follow in the path of Torah and Mitzvot.
In his later years, he moved to Modi'in Illit to be near his daughters. He became a fixture of the local Beit Midrash, where he could be found diligently studying throughout the day like a young avreich.
He was renowned for his blessings, and many people were sent to his door to seek salvation through his merit. Distinguished figures, including Rabbis from the Abuhatzeira family, would rise in his honor. Despite his stature, he greeted every person, great or small, warmly.
He leaves behind many descendants who continue his path. Among his sons are prominent public figures: Rabbi Mordechai Illouz, CEO of Shaarei Tzion Institutions; Rabbi Moshe Illouz, CEO of El HaMa’ayan; and Rabbi Ami Illouz, Chairman of the Kiryat Yam Religious Council.
The funeral procession departed at 12:00 PM from his home in Modi'in Illit. Eulogies and burial are scheduled for 3:00 PM at the Sephardic Funeral Hall at Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem.
May his memory be a blessing.
