National Unity party responds after Likud objected to MK Yuli Edelstein's participation in ceremony marking return to Ganim settlement
The northern Samaria settlement of Ganim was officially re-established Thursday morning, 21 years after its evacuation. Hundreds gathered for a ceremony marking the community's formal return to the site.
Among those attending were Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Communications Minister Dr. Shlomo Karhi, and Knesset member Yuli Edelstein. Edelstein recently left the Likud party to join the National Unity party led by former minister Gilad Erdan.
Likud officials quickly criticized Dagan for inviting Edelstein to the event.
Erdan's National Unity party issued a sharp response to the criticism.
"It appears some are feeling pressure ahead of the primaries over the fact that senior Likud members voted in favor of the expulsion from Gush Katif," the party stated, referring to the 2005 disengagement from Gaza. "MK Edelstein led the historic move to repeal the disengagement law from northern Samaria and opposed the expulsion long before today's young instructors were members of Knesset. The National Unity party is the true home for the right-wing public in Israel."
