A video circulating widely over the past day shows Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, shouting at her husband and his aides during the opening ceremony of the Maccabiah Games at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.
According to Channel 13 reporter Michael Shemesh, witnesses at the event said Sara Netanyahu raised her voice at the prime minister, telling him, "Because of you I fought with people here. You let me fight with people." She reportedly went on to tell the prime minister's aides, "You need to look after me. Why aren't they letting me through?"
The incident took place Wednesday evening, after Netanyahu delivered a speech to the Jewish athletes gathered at the stadium, declaring, "We are one nation and one family, with one destiny, so stand proud and strong, and together we will win." According to the reports, the confrontation unfolded behind the scenes shortly after, and lasted several minutes in view of many attendees before relatively calming down.
Journalist Uri Misgav, who was present in the VIP section, posted footage from the box on his Facebook page appearing to show part of the incident, possibly toward its end. In the clip, the prime minister's wife is seen moving uncomfortably and turning to address her husband and those around him.
According to the reports, the confrontation stemmed from Sara Netanyahu's claim that she had not been escorted into the VIP box in an orderly manner, and that people had stepped on her during the crowding.
Neither the Prime Minister's Office nor Sara Netanyahu's representatives have issued a public response to the video at time of writing.
