Flames take 2 lives - a hero and a child
Avreich dies saving infant in Rechasim blaze
Rav Eliyahu Cohen, 40, lost his life after bravely attempting to rescue an infant from a fire.

A profound tragedy has shaken the Rechasim community, located 5km from Haifa, following the passing of Rav Eliyahu Cohen, 40, who succumbed to critical injuries sustained while heroically trying to save an infant during a devastating fire on Alonim Street on November 6 of this year.
The fire engulfed a residential apartment, tragically claiming the life of six-month-old Uriah David Moshe z"l and destroying a local shul, including a precious Sefer Torah. Rav Cohen, a devoted member of the nearby Kollel “Mishkan Amram,” ran from his studies to rescue the child. His valiant efforts cost him dearly, as he suffered grave injuries in the attempt.
The community rallied in prayer, hoping for a miraculous recovery, but those prayers turned to mourning as news of his passing spread. Just last week, thousands of residents attended the funeral for the burnt Sifrei Torah, reciting Tehillim for Rav Cohen’s recovery. Now, the same community grieves his loss with heavy hearts.
