The Israel Police has officially announced the death of Senior Staff Sergeant Elad Jacob Winkelstein (35), killed early this morning (Monday) in a shooting attack near the settlement of Kedumim in Judea and Samaria while driving with his eldest son, who survived the incident unharmed.

The announcement was cleared for publication by the police spokesperson's office, as reported by journalist Daphna Liel.

Security officials report that Winkelstein managed to return fire at the attackers in his final moments, likely saving his son's life. The child was in the vehicle during the attack but emerged physically unharmed.

Winkelstein served as an investigator at the Ariel Police Station in the Samaria District.

Winkelstein is survived by his wife and two children. The family had recently moved to Kibbutz Ein HaNatziv, where they both served as youth counselors.

The Israel Police expressed their commitment to supporting the Winkelstein family in their time of grief. Funeral arrangements will be announced separately.

May his memory be blessed.
