Israel issues rare rebuke to Jordan over flag stomping incident
Foreign Ministry warns act could incite violence and harm bilateral relations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the Jordanian embassy in Israel on Wednesday to protest the publication of footage of the deputy head of the Jordanian Bar Association, Walid Al-Adwan, stepping on the Israeli flag at the entrance to the Bar Association.
The Foreign Ministry statement: "Israel strongly condemns the trampling of the Israeli flag by the Deputy Head of the Jordanian Bar Association, Mr. Walid Al-Adwan, at the entrance to the Bar Association, as documented this week and published on social media. Placing the Israeli flag on the entrance floor and declaring that "anyone who enters us must step on it" is an act of incitement, which is inconsistent with the spirit of the peace treaty between the countries."
"Israel expects the Jordanian government to condemn the incident and take steps to prevent the recurrence of such acts. The lack of condemnation by the Jordanian authorities of the incident is a cause for concern, as such expressions of hatred are liable to damage the relations of trust and cooperation between the two countries, and even, as recent incidents on the common border have demonstrated, to lead to violence against Israeli citizens." the statement read.
The Foreign Ministry sent an official protest to the Jordanian embassy in Israel, emphasizing that such cases must be ensured that such cases do not recur in the future.
