7 Life-Saving Tips You Need to Know Before the Party
Alcohol can be dangerous: How to drink responsibly during Purim
Purim is a time for celebration, and one of the traditions involves drinking "until you do not know" (ad d'lo yada). However, it's important to celebrate responsibly and protect your health.

How can you enjoy the holiday and observe the tradition of drinking without endangering your health or ending up in unwanted situations? Here's how you can responsibly fulfill the mitzvah and stay safe.
As Purim approaches, parties with alcohol and substances are expected to emerge. These substances can be harmful to your health and development and may lead to long-term damage. Asaf Kna'an, CEO of the Al-Sam organization, warns about the risks: "There will be Purim parties with bottles of alcohol and drugs passed around, and these substances can cause severe harm."
Reports of young people who become seriously ill due to excessive alcohol consumption are common during Purim. Many young people do not fully understand the consequences of irresponsible drinking. Often, they do not ask questions or try to learn about the effects because they fear social reactions. To help, we have compiled essential tips for drinking responsibly, ensuring you can enjoy the holiday without putting yourself or others at risk.
Alcohol depresses the central nervous system and impairs judgment. As a result, those who drink irresponsibly may experience a lack of inhibition, which can lead to dangerous decisions, putting their lives at risk. If you are participating in the "ad d'lo yada" tradition, here are some golden rules to follow:
Know Your Drink: Be aware of what is in your glass, and avoid trying unknown beverages. Drink what you know, or what others have already tried, to ensure you are familiar with its effects.
Eat First: It’s important to eat something before drinking. Food delays alcohol absorption but does not cancel its effects.
Avoid Mixing: Do not mix alcohol with energy drinks. This dangerous combination can lead to reckless behavior and a false sense of invincibility, which can result in risky situations.
Designate a Sober Friend: While it may not be as fun, it's crucial to have someone in your group who stays sober to watch over everyone. This person will ensure everyone gets home safely. If something goes wrong, thank your designated sober friend for looking out for you.
Don't Skimp on Quality: Cheap alcohol may be counterfeit and can cause serious physical harm. Always buy alcohol from reputable sources, in sealed packaging that you recognize.
Watch Your Drink: This advice applies to everyone, not just women concerned about drink tampering. Always keep an eye on your drink and only consume from your own glass to avoid potential risks.
Stay Hydrated: For every alcoholic drink you consume, drink at least one glass of water. This will help mitigate the effects of alcohol.
Quick Call for Help: If something goes wrong, call your parents. It doesn't matter how angry or disappointed you think they might be – they are there to support you. Calling them in times of need will be the best way to get help.
Remember, you are young, and you have your whole life ahead of you. The alcohol and drugs that might seem appealing now can wait until you are older and more equipped to handle them.
How to Help a Friend Who Drank Too Much at a Party If you notice a friend who is not feeling well after drinking, ensure they drink plenty of water. Find a safe place for them to lie down, preferably on their side to avoid choking if they feel nauseous. If necessary, call for an adult or medical help. Don't try to manage the situation alone.
Asaf Kna'an, CEO of Al-Sam, emphasizes the importance of looking out for each other and staying safe during Purim celebrations.
