Following a series of intense overnight and early morning airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, Israel has announced it will resume the current ceasefire agreement at 10 a.m. today, military sources confirmed.

The renewed escalation came after Israel accused the Hamas terror group of violating the truce, which included a deadly attack on Israeli troops in the southern Gaza city of Rafah yesterday. Furthermore, sources indicated that Israel's actions were partly driven by Hamas's failure to return the 13 remaining bodies of hostages taken during the conflict.

The Israeli military launched a wave of strikes targeting various Hamas infrastructure across the territory. In the hours leading up to the 10 a.m. resumption, residents in areas like Khan Younis reported heavy bombardment, with an image showing a man walking amid the significant rubble of a destroyed house in the city.

The latest round of fighting and the subsequent halt highlight the fragility of the current truce. The initial ceasefire, brokered by international mediators, aimed to allow for the exchange of living hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian security prisoners held in Israel, as well as to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

While the exact nature of the agreement's terms regarding the return of the deceased hostages' remains has been a point of contention, Israel has repeatedly stated that the complete return of all those taken captive, alive or dead, is a non-negotiable goal.

The resumption of the ceasefire is expected to provide a temporary window for continued de-escalation efforts, but the underlying tensions and the unresolved issue of the remaining hostages underscore the precarious political and security situation in the region.

UPDATE 10:12 AM:

Following Hamas’s violations, the IDF says it has resumed enforcement of the ceasefire after a series of strikes on dozens of terror targets.

According to the military, 30 senior terrorists were eliminated.
