New details emerged Tuesday about a terror attack planned for the immediate term and thwarted following intelligence received by the Shin Bet. Despite the overnight arrests of the suspects, security officials still classify the incident as active, and surveillance continues amid concern that additional suspects may be involved.
According to the details now public, the incident began with intelligence the Shin Bet received about two suspects intending to carry out an attack imminently. Acting on the information, security forces moved to arrest them, and both were transferred for interrogation overnight.
But during the interrogation it became clear that the circle of those involved may be wider. Following questioning of the suspects, suspicion arose regarding the involvement of another individual, and he was arrested early this morning in a city in central Israel.
An additional detail emerging from the information is that the first two suspects had not yet armed themselves ahead of carrying out the attack. Accordingly, no weapons were seized during the arrests.
