Jerusalem couple with one-year-old infant accidentally entered Area A near Bethlehem Thursday night • Security forces located them near a hotel in the Palestinian city and brought them back to Israeli control

Parents and Baby Rescued from Palestinian City after Wrong Turn

A Jerusalem couple with their one-year-old baby accidentally entered Area A near Bethlehem Thursday night, triggering an emergency rescue operation by Israeli security forces working with Palestinian police.

The incident began around 8:25 p.m. Thursday when Israel Police's 100 emergency hotline received a frantic call from an Israeli citizen reporting that he, his wife, and their infant son had mistakenly entered Area A in Judea and Samaria.

Area A comprises territory in Judea and Samaria under full Palestinian Authority civil and security control. Israeli law and military orders strictly prohibit Israeli citizens from entering these areas due to the absence of Israeli security control and the real danger of kidnapping, physical harm, and other serious incidents. Entry carries criminal penalties.

Emergency and enforcement systems across the region were immediately activated to locate the family's exact position and extract them before they faced imminent danger.

The rescue effort involved extensive coordination between Judea District police officers in the Joint Coordination and Liaison Administration (CLA) and the IDF's District Coordination Office. Israeli officials made contact with their counterparts in the Palestinian police to locate the family quickly.

After intensive search efforts, Palestinian police located the couple and their infant in good health near a hotel in central Bethlehem. Immediately after being found, the three were handed over to Israeli security forces, officers from the Etzion station in the Judea region, together with representatives from the IDF's District Coordination Office and liaison officials (DCO). They were transferred directly to the police station.

Upon arrival at Etzion station, the parentsm Jerusalem residents aged 41 and 34, were questioned under caution for entering a prohibited area under Israeli law. Following the interrogation and completion of initial procedures, both were released under restrictive conditions.

The incident joins a series of similar cases in which security forces have been forced to extract Israeli citizens who entered Area A by mistake or deliberately.

Just months ago, an Israeli citizen was rescued after accidentally entering the Ramallah area when he took a wrong turn. In another case, ten Israeli citizens were extracted from Qalqilya after entering Area A in an attempt to locate a stolen motorcycle and were surrounded by dozens of rioters.

Security officials emphasize that entry to Area A is absolutely forbidden by law and poses a real danger to those who enter. These territories are under full Palestinian Authority control, and entering them without security coordination endangers citizens' lives.
