International media outlets report that the US State Department and White House are applying broad pressure on countries to avoid participating in the UN conference to be held in New York from June 17-20, which promotes unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.

In a diplomatic cable on June 10, Washington warned a series of countries against participating in the UN summit aimed at advancing the "two-state solution." According to international media, the US warned that countries that support the initiative or take part in "anti-Israeli" actions after the conference will be considered as acting against American policy principles and could be harmed diplomatically.

Jerusalem, for its part, stated that the conference will not lead to real agreement, and expresses genuine concern that unilateral initiatives could harm Israel's security and advance an unclear process without Israel's participation.

In a letter sent by the State Department and approved by the White House, the Americans determined that "the conference will not advance anything and will harm Israel's security" and announced that there will be direct consequences for unilateral moves.
