Here's Hoping It Works

U.S. Gaza Aid Plan Bypasses Hamas and IDF, Will It Work?

The U.S. has proposed a new aid system for Gaza that bypasses both Hamas and the IDF, delivering food via an independent foundation with strict oversight, a first real test of bypassing the current chaos.

The US Middle East Envoy presented an appeal to the UN Security Council, in which he laid out America's detailed plan for a new, independent mechanism for delivering aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, under the aegis of the newly established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation or GHF, according to Ynet.

According to the document he sent and which reached Ynet, the GHF will establish four safe distribution sites, each serving up to 300,000 people, a total of 1.2 million Gazans. The mechanism would bypass existing aid agencies and organizations, whom the IDF and Israel have accused of being too close to Hamas.

The IDF will reportedly not be present at the aid stations, something IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has insisted upon, but will instead help coordinate secure delivery of the food and aid, which according to Witkoff will be on a transparent basis. The Envoy also stressed the relatively low cost of the enterprise per aid package delivered.

The aid distribution will be given advice by former senior officials at the UN World Food Programme and World Central Kitchen, and will be the first true test of an attempt by the US and Israel to bypass the current aid system, which Hamas was able to ransack to feed its terrorists and resell to the public to renew its funds.
