Digital Deception: Is Iran’s Most Famous Military Spokesman Actually an AI?
Real hero or AI hologram? The IDF raises shock suspicions that Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari is a digital deepfake created for psychological warfare.

In a move that adds a bizarre layer of psychological warfare to the current conflict, the IDF’s Persian-language spokesperson, Kamal Penhasi, has publicly questioned whether his Iranian counterpart even exists.
In an address directed at the Iranian people on Wednesday, Penhasi suggested that Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the charismatic face of Iran’s "Khatam al-Anbiya" Central Command, may not be a human being, but a sophisticated product of Artificial Intelligence.
"He looks more like an AI product to us than a real person," Penhasi stated in Persian. The IDF spokesperson challenged Iranian citizens to provide evidence of Zolfaghari’s physical existence. "If you have met him in an interview or in the field, let us know. If not, help us prove that he is a digital fabrication."
The IDF's challenge strikes at the heart of the Iranian regime's credibility, asking: "Are they forced to create fictional characters to speak to the people? And what does that say about the reliability of their messages?"
The "Phenomenon" of Zolfaghari
Lt. Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari rose to prominence during the 2026 conflict as a "phenomenon of war." Serving as the top operational coordinator between the Iranian Army and the IRGC, Zolfaghari gained viral notoriety for his attempts to conduct direct psychological warfare against Israel and the United States.
Known for being a multilingual figure (fluent in Persian, Arabic, English, and Hebrew), Zolfaghari often attempted to mimic the IDF’s own digital strategy:
International analysts have compared Zolfaghari to figures like Hamas’s Abu Obeida or the Houthis’ Yahya Saree, spokesmen who "embody" the military action rather than just reporting on it. However, his efforts were often met with ridicule in Israel due to his "pathetic" attempts to master the Hebrew language.
While Zolfaghari maintains a massive digital footprint, the IDF's latest claim suggests that his lack of verifiable, live public appearances could point to a high-tech deception.
