US Deploys More Electronic Warfare Jets Toward Middle East

U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler electronic warfare jets deploy eastward through Spain's Rota naval base, escorted by KC-46A tankers, in dramatic military buildup targeting Iran. Specialized aircraft designed to jam radars and suppress air defenses position for potential strike operations as Washington-Tehran standoff reaches critical point amid failed diplomatic efforts.

U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft are being deployed eastward, with Naval Station Rota in Spain serving as a key staging point, supported by U.S. Air Force KC-46A Pegasus tankers operating under callsigns GOLD31, GOLD32, GOLD41, and GOLD42.

This movement is part of a broader U.S. military buildup in the Middle East amid escalating tensions with Iran. Flight tracking data shows that on January 27-28, 2026, KC-46A tankers from McGuire Air Force Base repositioned to Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida before proceeding toward Puerto Rico to rendezvous with and escort six EA-18G Growlers from a U.S. Navy squadron.

The tankers, using "GOLD" callsigns typical for Coronet missions (transoceanic fighter deployments), then continued eastward, with indications that the Growlers are bound for the Middle East after staging at Rota.

Rota, a U.S.-Spanish naval base, is frequently used as a transit hub for assets heading to Europe or the Middle East.

The EA-18G Growler, operated by U.S. Navy Electronic Attack Squadrons (VAQ), specializes in electronic warfare, including jamming enemy radars, disrupting communications, and suppressing air defenses to support strike operations.

This capability aligns with potential preparations for operations against Iranian air defenses, as speculated in OSINT circles.

The deployment follows similar movements of fighters, tankers, and transport aircraft to the region, including the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group's arrival.
