To mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel, Israel’s Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, participated yesterday (Wednesday) in the Conference of Minister-Presidents of the German States, chaired by Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer (CDU). This event represents a unique show of solidarity with Israel by all 16 German states, governed by parties spanning the entire political spectrum, unequivocally standing by Israel’s side.

The Forum of State Minister-Presidents plays a key role in shaping German policy at both the state and federal levels. Their support for Israel carries significant implications for the development of strategic relations between Israel and Germany. The state leaders expressed their commitment to deepening these ties and their desire to strengthen the bonds between the two peoples. As part of this, an agreement was reached to establish a joint initiative under which hundreds of young leaders from across Germany will visit Israel.

Ambassador Prosor stated that “Germany is today Israel’s most important ally in Europe. And Israel needs friends—especially now. The Israeli Embassy and attempts to undermine it have, in some places, become a national sport. But we are not deterred: to mark 60 years since their establishment, the Embassy is leading ten projects in the fields of culture, science, academia, and youth exchanges—especially now. Together, we can achieve wonderful things!”

Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer delivered an impassioned speech in support of Israel, emphasizing the fact that the support and strength of Germany’s states are rooted in a commitment to the West and trust in the South, adding that: “One can bless Israel without visiting it, and therefore I welcome the Ambassador’s efforts to promote delegations of young leaders, who will serve as a bridge to the next generation of the special relationship between our countries.”

He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the forum to Ambassador Prosor for his unique contribution and tireless work to deepen relations, particularly during times of crisis.

Throughout the year, events and activities are planned across Germany and Israel to commemorate this important milestone, including economic and academic collaborations, joint cultural performances, media conferences, and reciprocal delegation visits.
