Warsaw-Modlin Airport in Poland was closed until further notice on Tuesday after a passenger plane from London made an unplanned landing following a report of an explosive device on board, the airport said in a statement.
The Boeing 737 MAX was flying from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin Airport when the bomb threat alert was triggered at 9:54 a.m. local time, according to the airport. The aircraft landed at Modlin seven minutes later with 181 people on board, Romanian outlet HotNews reported, citing the airport.
Security services are verifying the reported threat, the airport said. Polish outlet Interia noted that the diversion does not confirm the presence of an explosive device, and no information has been released on when the airport will reopen.
The incident comes a day after a Wizz Air flight from London to Sofia was diverted to Budapest over a bomb threat during the flight, according to Israeli media reports. A Hungarian Gripen fighter jet escorted the plane to a safe landing. Hungarian authorities found no explosive device, and the aircraft later continued to its destination.
Modlin, located north of the Polish capital, mainly serves budget airlines.
