BNEI BRAK — In a rare and symbolic meeting, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the home of prominent Lithuanian Haredi leader Rabbi Dov Landau in Bnei Brak on Wednesday. The two held a private conversation lasting approximately 25 minutes, covering key political and religious concerns, including the future of the Torah world in Israel and the rising tension over military draft policies.
According to sources close to the rabbi, Rabbi Landau used the opportunity to deliver a direct message to US President Donald Trump, via the ambassador.
“Please tell him,” the rabbi said, “that the Jewish people live and endure thanks to the Torah. The yeshiva students are our defenders. Their role and honor must be protected.”
The ambassador reportedly listened respectfully, expressing genuine interest in the Haredi way of life and in the structure and values of the yeshiva world. Several questions were raised during the discussion, particularly regarding the potential departure of Haredi parties from Israel’s governing coalition and the escalating dispute over the military draft.
