U.S. Maritime Blockade: 86 Vessels Diverted from Iran

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage late Wednesday showing American naval forces enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran, part of Washington's ongoing effort to pressure Tehran's economy and prevent the movement of goods and military equipment.

According to CENTCOM's official statement, U.S. forces diverted 86 commercial vessels from their routes as part of the blockade enforcement operations. The ships had attempted to reach Iranian ports or depart from them and were redirected by the American Navy.

In addition, three vessels were disabled during the operations, while two others were boarded and inspected by American forces. The inspections aimed to verify that the ships were not sailing toward Iran and were not carrying cargo prohibited under the blockade.

The American maritime blockade against Iran was reinstated on July 14 of this year, following the collapse of temporary understandings signed in June. Since the blockade's renewal, the United States has maintained sustained naval pressure on Iranian ports and coastal areas, aiming to disrupt maritime traffic and complicate the transport of goods, fuel, and military equipment.

Reports from Iranian opposition channels indicate the blockade is tightening significantly. According to these accounts, the U.S. Navy is no longer limiting itself to preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports, but has recently begun warning Iranian vessels against movement between different ports within Iran's own territorial waters.

Tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate following sharp exchanges of fire last week, when the U.S. military struck naval mine launchers belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded by launching missile barrages at American bases in Jordan.

Israeli security officials are concerned that the exchange of blows between the two sides could develop into a broader confrontation and potentially lead to attacks directed at Israel as well.
