Israel: "Ceasefire Extension Possible"

Israeli officials suggest the ceasefire may be extended to allow Tehran a final window to accept Washington's terms

Despite the collapse of talks in Pakistan, Israeli officials believe the current ceasefire between the United States and Iran may be extended to allow for further back-channel negotiations.

According to Israeli sources, a centerpiece of the proposal currently on the table, and a "critical" point for Jerusalem, is the total removal of enriched uranium from Iranian soil.

The "Uranium Removal" Clause

While Vice President J.D. Vance characterized the recent Islamabad summit as a failure, Israeli officials suggest that the door has not been completely slammed shut. The U.S. proposal reportedly includes a demand that Iran ship its entire stockpile of enriched uranium to a third country, effectively stripping Tehran of the material needed to "break out" toward a nuclear weapon.

In Jerusalem, this demand is being framed as a non-negotiable threshold. "The removal of enriched uranium is a critical point," an Israeli official stated. "Without the physical removal of the material, any promise of 'non-enrichment' is hollow."

The report suggests that an extension would provide a window for Iran's leadership to reconsider the "final and best offer" delivered by Vance, particularly in light of the looming threat of a total U.S. naval blockade.

Jerusalem’s Strategic Focus

While the U.S. delegation focused on regional issues and shipping lanes, Israel has remained laser-focused on the technical aspects of the nuclear program. For the Israeli security establishment, the "Uranium Removal" clause is the only guarantee that Iran cannot rapidly reverse its commitments once diplomatic pressure eases.

Whether Tehran will bend on the issue of its uranium stockpile remains the pivotal question that will determine if the ceasefire leads to a deal or a wider military confrontation.
