A Call to Action
Rabbi's Fiery Warning: "Zohran Mamdani Threatens New York Jewish Community's Safety"
Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove, The leader of the Park Avenue Synagogue Urges Action as Election Looms

Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove, a prominent figure in the Conservative Movement and leader of one of New York City's most influential synagogues, expressed today deep concerns about Zohran Mamdani's positions and statements.
"I believe Zohran Mamdani poses a danger to the security of the New York Jewish community," he stated, highlighting Mamdani's refusal to condemn certain slogans, his denial of Israel's legitimacy as a Jewish state, and his calls for the arrest of Israel's prime minister.
These actions, according to Rabbi Cosgrove, are part of a pattern that includes accusations of genocide and other statements that he believes undermine Jewish interests.
The rabbi's speech, delivered in a synagogue setting, emphasizes the gravity of the situation.
He argues that Mamdani's distinction between accepting Jews and denying a Jewish state is not merely rhetorical but indicative of a deeper bias.
"The assumption that Jewish self-determination is an ideology to be tolerated rather than a birthright to be respected betrays a bias so deeply held that it should make every one of us shudder," Rabbi Cosgrove warned.
This warning comes at a critical juncture in New York City's mayoral race, where Mamdani, a democratic socialist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has emerged as a leading candidate.
His platform, which includes questionable policies on housing, police reform, and public ownership, has garnered significant support but also drawn criticism from conservative and pro-Israel factions. Rabbi Cosgrove's intervention is part of a broader effort by Jewish community leaders to mobilize voters, as evidenced by the activities of groups like Jewish Voters Unite, which have been actively engaging the community ahead of the election.
