The lookouts of Gaza Division were among the first to identify and warn the approach of terrorists towards Israeli territory, trying to call up forces and operate remote weapons via the “see-shoot” system. The lookouts operated and still operate sharply, professionally, and at the ready to close with and eliminate the terrorists, even while under fire themselves.

In documentation published for the first time this evening (Sunday), you can see the moments in which the first terrorists to infiltrate were eliminated by the lookouts on the first day of the war. “A complex event – commander, we’re at war!” was said over the radio.

Major D., company commander of intelligence gathering at the southern regional brigade, recalled how “on Shabbat morning, the lookouts identified movement towards the country’s territory. We called up forces throughout the sector, while carrying out remote fire to break up the penetration into the country. Even when they were at the heart of exchanges of fire, the lookouts continued to man the camera until the last moment, until they fell, and they all moved up to the settlement line to protect the lives of the Perimeter residents. We are after difficult days, and we will also have days ahead – we are ready for what’s about to come.”
