North Korea's state-run television has offered an unconventional solution to the country's sweltering summer heat: drink a liter of beer.
The recommendation came during a broadcast on Korean Central Television, the regime's official channel, on August 6, according to NK News, a specialist outlet covering North Korean affairs. The program focused on strategies for coping with extreme summer temperatures. During the segment, a liter of beer was presented as "an effective health drink for relieving heat."
Viewers were instructed to follow their beer consumption with water or weak tea. The broadcast also suggested other cold foods and beverages, including shaved ice, fruit juices, and milk tea.
NK News noted that the beer recommendation lacks medical support. In fact, alcohol can increase fluid loss and dehydration, making it an unsuitable substitute for water when dealing with heat stress.
The unusual advice sparked amused reactions on social media platforms outside North Korea. "This is exactly the advice that suits me," one user wrote, while another responded enthusiastically: "Yes, commander!"
