The 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi focused on weighty matters, from the Middle East conflict to the global economy, but it was a small moment behind one of the leaders' speeches that captured extraordinary attention online.

As Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered his remarks at the summit, cameras caught Randhir Jaiswal, spokesman for India's Foreign Ministry, eating from a container of nuts and dried fruit behind him. Jaiswal returned to the container once more before it was finally removed from the scene.

The brief scene quickly gained traction on Indian social media, with users focusing on the amusing contrast between the serious diplomatic atmosphere in the hall and what was unfolding in the background.

The summit itself took place September 12-13 in New Delhi, with leaders and senior officials from the expanded BRICS nations in attendance. Among the central issues discussed were tensions in the Middle East, the conflict surrounding Iran, security of shipping routes, global trade, use of local currencies, and the aspiration to strengthen the position of the developing nations bloc on the international stage.

The Iranian presence took on special significance against the backdrop of regional tensions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi even held talks with Pezeshkian, in which he emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation, maritime commerce, and crew safety at sea.
