Extraordinary footage from South Africa's Kruger National Park has captured the moment one of nature's fastest predators launched into a full-speed chase after an entire herd.
The video shows a herd of impala fleeing at top speed as a cheetah pursues them across the terrain. As the animals approach the road where safari vehicles are parked, the impala execute spectacular leaps, soaring over the pavement in their flight from the predator.
The jumping ability of the impala is nothing short of remarkable. Wildlife researchers document that impala can leap as high as three meters and cover a distance of approximately ten meters in a single bound.
These dramatic jumps serve a purpose beyond spectacle, they're a core survival strategy. When the herd is startled, the impala leap and change direction rapidly, making it difficult for the predator to single out and capture any one animal.
