Social media storm

Yael Shelbia photos spark concern

The Israeli model shared a 1970s-inspired photoshoot, but followers focused on her prominent cheekbones, with comments calling her drugged-looking and "starved"

Yael Shelbia

Israeli model Yael Shelbia's latest Instagram post has drawn a wave of harsh criticism. The model shared a series of new photos inspired by the 1970s, featuring voluminous hair and subtle makeup, but the response was far from flattering.

Instead of the usual compliments, the first image in the series triggered a flood of critical comments focused on Shelbia's prominent cheekbones. "What happened to you in the first photo?" one follower wrote, alongside a harsher label: "Why does the first photo look like a 'user's'?"

"You look sad and starved"

The critical comments continued to pour in. "You look drugged," one follower wrote, adding: "Delete the photos. How did the almost most beautiful woman in the world put out this horror?" Another added: "You look sad and starved."

But the criticism wasn't limited to the model herself. Some followers chose to address the photography rather than Shelbia: "You're stunning, but this specific look is less flattering," one wrote, alongside the words "horrible photo, they made you look terrible."

Not the first time

This isn't the first time Shelbia has faced criticism online. Previously, she shared about the difficulties of living out of suitcases between Israel and Canada alongside her partner, Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll, and described how stress and pressure affected her physically.

Despite the harsh criticism, Shelbia has not yet responded to the comments or deleted the photos.
