A small act of attention can change someone's life. That's exactly what happened in Maryville, Tennessee, when a 21-year-old named Brooklyn Green arrived at a local AMC cinema to watch a film.
During her visit, Green noticed an elderly woman, her back bent, pushing and pulling a trash cart as she cleaned the theater. Despite her advanced age, the woman worked with dedication, and her commitment didn't escape the younger woman's notice.
Green decided to film a short video of the employee and post it to TikTok. At the same time, she opened a GoFundMe campaign for her, hoping to raise a modest sum to help with rent and living expenses.
What began as a small initiative quickly turned into an extraordinary viral phenomenon.
Within a single day, the fundraising campaign collected more than $100,000. The next day, when Green returned to the cinema to surprise the worker, the total had climbed to $146,000.
During her second visit, Green learned more details about the woman, whose name is Mary. The shift manager told her that Mary has worked in cinemas for more than 45 years, and that she loves her job very much.
According to him, Mary is even afraid that stopping work at her age could affect her negatively. For her, the job isn't necessarily just a source of income, but a significant part of her daily routine.
Mary wasn't at the cinema that day, but Green later managed to meet her and surprise her with the joyful news about the enormous sum raised on her behalf.
The meeting was recorded for the donors, and an emotional Mary thanked all the people who rallied for her. "Thank you so much to all the wonderful people who donated money," she said.
