An Uber driver in Houston, Texas, found himself in an extraordinary situation when two police officers jumped into his vehicle and enlisted his help in pursuing a suspect fleeing on foot. The entire incident was captured on the car's dashcam.
Anthony Baynes was driving through the Houston Heights neighborhood when he noticed a shirtless man running down the street with police officers chasing behind him. A female officer signaled him to stop, climbed into the front passenger seat, and instructed him: "Give me a ride over there please. Drive, drive, over there... drive, drive, drive!" Moments later, a second officer joined them in the back seat.
After several minutes, the officers apparently spotted the suspect, jumped out of the vehicle, and resumed their pursuit on foot.
"It caught me completely off guard," Baynes recounted. "Nothing like this has ever happened to me while driving. I was surprised, but I just did what the officer asked in that moment."
Police confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect was wanted in connection with alleged threats to shoot a woman and her children. Despite the unusual assistance from the Uber driver, the suspect was not apprehended and the investigation remains ongoing.
