Sa'ar bars UK Green chair over antisemitic vote

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar declares Zack Polanski persona non grata after British Greens adopt resolution equating Zionism with racism and calling for Palestinian state from the river to the sea

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced Sunday evening that he has declared Zack Polanski, chair of the UK Green Party, persona non grata and barred from entering Israel. The move follows the party's adoption of a resolution stating that "Zionism is racism."

The Foreign Ministry said the decision was coordinated with the relevant Israeli authorities.

"Today the UK Green Party adopted a resolution equating Zionism with racism, granting legitimacy to armed struggle against Israel, and calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state 'from the river to the sea,' which means the destruction of the State of Israel," the ministry stated. "The resolution constitutes a clearly antisemitic text according to the IHRA definition, as it denies the Jewish people's right to self-determination."

The British party's resolution describes Zionism as "a political ideology calling for the establishment of a Jewish state based on ethnic nationalism... while excluding the non-Jewish population within it." The resolution also calls for the establishment of a single Palestinian state with "equal rights for all, including the Jews within it." The resolution makes no mention of the State of Israel's existence or the possibility of a two-state solution.
