Brody backs anti-Israel candidate after genocide claim

The "Nobody Wants This" star joins campaign for pro-Palestinian Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, weeks after declaring put me down for genocide in Gaza interview

Adam Brody, the American Jewish actor who returned to the spotlight as the star of Netflix's hit series "Nobody Wants This," has announced his support for Abdul El-Sayed, the pro-Palestinian Democratic candidate for US Senate from Michigan, in the upcoming midterm elections.

In a campaign video released this week, Brody said he is working with the left-wing organization Swing Left to help elect El-Sayed to the Senate and restore a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives. The actor also voiced support for the "Medicare for All" public health program and reducing the influence of money and special interests in politics.

The political endorsement comes weeks after Brody made harsh statements against Israel in an interview that drew sharp criticism from the Jewish community. Asked about the war in Gaza, Brody stated: "Put me down as someone who thinks this is genocide. Put me down as someone who wants a free Palestine."

Brody's extreme positions have caused friction even within the production team of "Nobody Wants This," where he plays a Reform rabbi. Tovah Feldshuh, the veteran actress who portrays his mother in the series and holds strongly pro-Israel views, attacked him sharply and accused him of adopting a dangerous antisemitic narrative. "To accuse the Jewish people of genocide is insane, it's taken straight from Hitler's playbook, to take the victim and turn them into the perpetrator," Feldshuh said.
