New Charges in Eldar Dayan Murder Case

Police seek eight-day extension for four suspects as investigation reveals additional assault charges stemming from violent altercation that preceded victim's disappearance

Israeli police are expected to request an eight-day extension of detention for four suspects in the death of Eldar Yitzhak Dayan at Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court. The current detention request includes two serious charges that were not attributed to the suspects in previous hearings.

The new charges, assault causing actual bodily harm and simple assault by two or more persons, have been added to the existing allegations against those involved. Investigators from the Sharon Central Unit (known in Hebrew as Yamar Sharon) added the charges following progress in the investigation and new evidence that has emerged.

The four suspects whose detention is expected to be extended were previously questioned at Petah Tikva police station on suspicion of involvement in a violent altercation that occurred in the Hod HaSharon and Yarkon Park area. According to investigative materials, an especially violent confrontation developed between three young men from Dimona, including the late Eldar Dayan, and a group of five local youths.

After the case was transferred to Yamar Sharon and the investigation advanced, authorities decided to re-arrest the four suspects. The two new serious charges have now been added to the existing allegations, which include grievous bodily harm, conspiracy to commit a crime, assault, affray, and intentional damage to a vehicle.

According to details revealed in the investigation, a violent altercation erupted in the Hod HaSharon and Yarkon Park area on July 25 during an outing in central Israel. During the confrontation, investigative materials indicate that one of the group attempted to run over the young men using Dayan's vehicle, and the car's windshield was damaged.

The three subsequently fled to a gas station in the Petah Tikva area, abandoned the vehicle, removed its license plates, and went into hiding. At this point their paths diverged: two of Dayan's companions returned to Dimona by public transportation, while Eldar Dayan's trail went completely cold after he sent his girlfriend the message "there's trouble."

The dramatic breakthrough in the investigation came in early August, after three weeks of intensive searches, when Dayan's body was located. Following the discovery, the case was transferred to the Sharon Central Unit, which launched a covert investigation that strengthened the primary suspicion.

Investigators returned to examine the altercation as one of the central threads in the tragic death. Simultaneously, the investigation continues against Dayan's two companions who were with him that day and have provided contradictory accounts of the events.

Law enforcement officials stated that the investigation continues intensively, with the investigative team continuing to gather evidence and question all those involved in the incident. The hearing on the detention extension request is expected to take place in the coming days at Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court.
