Israel Launches Major Operation
Israel’s massive Rahat raid targets organized crime syndicates
Israel launched a major multi-agency operation in Rahat targeting organized crime in the Arab community, seizing assets, enforcing demolitions, and arresting suspects to enhance public safety. The extensive enforcement effort aims to combat violence and strengthen governance in the region.

On May 7, 2025, Israel Police Commissioner Superintendent Danny Levy initiated a large-scale enforcement operation in Rahat and its surrounding areas to combat organized crime within the Arab community and enhance public security. Led by Southern District Commander Chief Superintendent Chaim Bublil and Negev Region Commander Deputy Superintendent Amir Klein, the operation involves over 1,000 police officers, Border Police, and National Guard fighters, alongside representatives from the Israel Tax Authority, State Attorney’s Office, Israel Security Agency, and other government agencies. Coordinated by the Task Force for Combating Crime in the Arab Community under the Prime Minister’s Office, the operation targets crime perpetrators to strengthen governance and public safety.
The forces raided dozens of compounds and businesses in Rahat, Tarabin, and nearby areas, focusing on economic enforcement. They seized 31 vehicles worth 2.5 million ILS, collected over 300,000 ILS in tax debts, and seized 400,000 ILS in cash and 1.2 kg of gold (valued at 240,000 ILS) suspected of tax evasion. Additionally, 185 kg of unfit meat was destroyed, and 53,000 ILS in fines were collected. The operation targeted illegal activities, confiscating dangerous drugs, arresting 12 illegal residents and two employers, and detaining 26 individuals for investigation. Traffic enforcement resulted in 304 citations, with 30 vehicles removed for safety violations and 14 unlicensed or drug-influenced drivers investigated.
The operation enforced 26 demolition orders, identified 14 illegal structures for future demolition, and addressed criminal land grabs. This reflects Israel’s broader efforts to curb violence in Arab communities, where organized crime has fueled a homicide rate of 114 per million in 2023, far exceeding national averages. The ongoing operation underscores the state’s commitment to public safety, with authorities stating, “Israel is determined to strengthen personal security, improve the quality of life for all law-abiding citizens, and act uncompromisingly against anyone who defies the law.” The operation continues, with further actions expected to bolster community trust and security.
