A former head of the National Coal Supply Corporation told Israel Hayom that Columbia's decision to bar coal sales to Israel "until the genocide ends" is worrying but not an insurmountable challenge.

Columbian President Gustavo Petro's recent decision to bar coal sales to Israel has many worried, as Columbia is Israel's main coal supplier.

Oren Helman, former CEO of the National Coal Supply Corporation told Israel Hayom said that this is a "worrying" development, but that Israel has dealt with coal shortage problems before, such as when coal prices shot up 400% due to gas shortages caused by the Russo-Ukranian War.

Helman said that in addition to the reality of other coal suppliers, Israel itself has significant coal reserves and can deal with the new constraints imposed by Columbia.
