Horror in France: 9-Year-Old Boy Rescued from Truck After Being Imprisoned for a Year
A 9-year-old boy has been rescued from a year of horror in France after being found naked and starved in a locked truck. Imprisoned by his father while a "normal" family lived nearby, the child has tragically lost the ability to walk.
A chilling case of child abuse has shaken the Alsace region after police discovered a nine-year-old boy held captive in shocking conditions inside a locked commercial truck. The child was found naked, starved, and surrounded by waste, having reportedly been imprisoned by his father for over a year.
The Rescue
The discovery was made in the small town of Hagenbach after an alert neighbor heard sounds of distress coming from a van parked in a residential yard and contacted authorities.
When police breached the vehicle, they found the boy lying in a fetal position on a pile of trash. He was severely malnourished and abnormally pale. Public Prosecutor Nicolas Heitz described the devastating physical toll of the confinement, stating that because of the prolonged period spent sitting in the cramped space, the boy had lost the ability to walk.
The child was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mulhouse for emergency medical treatment.
A Year of Captivity
The investigation revealed that the father, a 43-year-old man, had allegedly kept his son locked in the vehicle since November 2024.
The father has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and deprivation of medical care and basic needs.
His partner is also facing charges for failing to assist a minor and failing to report abuse. While the father admitted to the acts, he offered a bizarre defense, claiming he was "protecting" the boy from his partner’s supposed plan to commit the child to a psychiatric institution.
A Double Life
Perhaps most disturbing was the contrast between the boy's conditions and the rest of the household. While the nine-year-old withered away in the truck, a seemingly "normal" family life was taking place in the house just feet away, where the father lived with his partner and two daughters.
The partner has denied all allegations, claiming she was unaware of the boy's exact location, despite the father suggesting she had suspicions. Authorities are now focused on how the child’s existence and imprisonment remained hidden from the community and social services for such an extended period.
