Authorities in New York are hunting for a suspect who attempted to stab a young Haredi yeshiva student in Crown Heights after an accidental scooter collision at a busy intersection, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the bustling Brooklyn neighborhood.
The incident unfolded around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday last week at the corner of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway, directly adjacent to 770, the global headquarters of Chabad Hasidism and home to its central yeshiva, Tomchei Tmimim. Both the victim, a teenage yeshiva student, and the suspect were riding electric scooters when they collided unintentionally in the crowded area, frequented by students and locals.
According to reports from COLive, the suspect reacted by drawing a knife, chasing the boy, and damaging his scooter. The teen escaped unharmed, with no reported injuries.
New York Police Department officers and volunteers from the local "Shmira" community patrol group responded swiftly but the suspect fled before apprehension.Security camera footage captured images of the assailant, described as wearing a black jacket and a blue hoodie cap. Authorities have released these photos and are seeking public assistance to identify and locate him.
