The Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved Sunday a bill by Likud MK Eliyahu Revivo to establish a state-backed center dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.

The proposal marks an unusual step in formal state recognition of Rabbi Nachman’s spiritual legacy, more than 200 years after his death. Rabbi Nachman remains one of the most influential figures in the Jewish world, with teachings that continue to inspire hundreds of thousands of followers in Israel and abroad.

Under the bill, a dedicated center would be established to preserve, document, research and teach Rabbi Nachman’s legacy for future generations. The center would operate under the responsibility of the Culture and Sports Ministry and under public oversight.

Revivo said the move recognizes the continuing influence of Rabbi Nachman’s teachings on Israeli society and the Jewish people as a whole.

“Rabbi Nachman of Breslov is not only a historical figure, but a living source of faith, hope and inspiration for hundreds of thousands of believers in Israel and around the world,” Revivo said.

He added that the center would give formal recognition to a legacy that remains active and relevant in Jewish life today.

“For me personally, Rabbi Nachman is a source of inspiration that accompanies me every day in public work and in my mission for the people of Israel,” Revivo said.

Rabbi Yaakov Jan, the rabbi of Uman, welcomed the initiative and said the time had come for the State of Israel to grant Rabbi Nachman’s legacy proper official recognition.

“This is a spiritual figure whose influence crosses sectors and communities, in Israel and around the world,” Jan said.

He praised Revivo for advancing the bill and said the proposed center would help pass Rabbi Nachman’s teachings, values and message to future generations.

The initiative comes as Breslov Hasidism continues to grow in visibility and influence, from large communities in Israel to the annual pilgrimage to Rabbi Nachman’s grave in Uman, which draws tens of thousands of worshippers each year. The proposed center would give that legacy a permanent institutional framework inside Israel.
