Former Minister Yaakov Margi: I Told a Hostage's Wife I Bear Responsibility

Former minister and outgoing Knesset member Yaakov Margi of Shas gave a rare interview to the Knesset Channel in which he spoke openly about his decision to leave political life and about taking responsibility for the events of October 7th.

During the interview, Margi shared details of a charged and complex meeting he held with families of hostages. "I told the wife of a hostage that I bear responsibility," Margi recounted, describing the sense of public and moral duty weighing on the country's leadership in the wake of the October 7th catastrophe.

He addressed the future of Israel's public and political systems in the day after the war, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive reckoning across all branches of government.

"There is no doubt that all government systems need to undergo a restart commensurate with the magnitude of the formative event that happened to us," Margi said. "There must be a thorough and genuine examination, but an objective mechanism needs to be established."
