IDF Readiness Drill Tests Multi-Front Response Capabilities

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the Ground Forces Training Center on Sunday as part of a surprise military-wide readiness exercise dubbed "Dawn Rising 2.0." Accompanying him were senior commanders including Maj. Gen. Yitzhak Cohen, head of the Operations Directorate; Maj. Gen. Yiniv Ashur, commander of the Southern Command; and several brigade and division commanders.

Zamir emphasized that the drill represents another step in implementing lessons from the October 7 attacks and testing the IDF's preparedness for surprise warfare scenarios. "We are examining the readiness of our forces and demanding the highest standards at all levels, from the soldier at the outpost to the General Staff; from the field soldier to the Chief of Staff," he said. "We are changing, correcting, and strengthening everything necessary to be better prepared for any scenario."

The exercise also serves as a message to Israel's adversaries, Zamir added. "The IDF is fit, prepared, and ready to defend the State of Israel, and ready to act quickly and strike forcefully against anyone who tries to harm us," he stated. "Our message is clear, whoever tries to harm the State of Israel and its citizens will meet a determined, prepared, and ready IDF, and will pay an immediate and very heavy price for it."

Early Sunday morning, the IDF launched a large-scale military exercise simulating the sudden eruption of security incidents across multiple theaters simultaneously. The drill, known as "Dawn Rising 2.0," was kept secret until the moment of activation, known only to a handful of individuals. This compartmentalization was designed to allow military leadership to test real-time readiness, with even general-rank officers unaware of the scenario in advance.

When the exercise began, commanders across all regional commands, branches, and divisions were activated. Simultaneously, the mobilization of all reserve and standby forces was tested. As part of the drill, one battalion was mobilized in full and deployed to the Ground Forces Training Center for operational exercises.

The exercise centers on a scenario involving a sudden, complex, large-scale multi-front incident. The test is designed to examine how different levels of the IDF respond to surprise, from receiving initial alerts and deploying forces to decision-making processes at command centers and the General Staff. The Chief of Staff himself monitored the exercise from the senior command observation post and in the field, while IDF inspection officers, both regular and reserve, operated within units and headquarters to assess their fitness and readiness levels.

The IDF emphasized that the drill incorporates lessons accumulated from combat in various theaters and from the events of October 7. The exercise was conducted as part of preparations for the upcoming holiday period and is included in the Operations Directorate's training program for 2026.
