A cyberattack attributed to Iranian-linked hackers successfully disabled a power station in the United Kingdom for four consecutive days, according to a report published Saturday night in The Telegraph. British security officials are calling it one of the most severe cyber incidents targeting the country's energy infrastructure.
British authorities have declined to identify the affected facility or its location, citing security concerns. However, officials confirmed that staff at the station worked around the clock for several days before managing to restore full operations.
The targeted facility is relatively small in scale, meaning its shutdown did not cause significant disruption to the national electricity supply. Nevertheless, the ability of foreign actors to penetrate control systems and disable an energy installation for an extended period has raised serious concerns among UK security officials about vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.
