Iraqi court postpones trial of 6 French nationals transferred from Syria on terrorism charges

An Iraqi court postponed the trial of six French nationals, originally scheduled for November 23, after the defendants failed to properly consult with defense lawyers. The six are among 47 French citizens transferred from Kurdish SDF custody in northeast Syria to Iraq in 2025 to face terrorism prosecutions. The court appointed representatives to ensure a fair process. Ten other French citizens have already been sentenced in related cases, mostly to life imprisonment (20 years) or 15 years.
