Right-wing commentator Gadi Taub outlined a potential post-election scenario this morning on social media, suggesting that Yisrael Beiteinu party leader Avigdor Liberman and reserve Brigadier General Ofer Winter may be planning a strategy to prevent the formation of a right-wing government.
In his analysis, Taub proposed that following the 2026 elections, Liberman and Winter could find themselves holding the balance of power between Israel's two main political blocs. Rather than recommending a candidate from either side to form a government, Taub suggested they would insist on recommending only Liberman himself for the premiership. According to this scenario, former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot might later join the effort to block a right-wing coalition.
Taub speculated that in such a situation, Liberman could offer Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a senior cabinet position, such as Foreign Minister, as an incentive to join a Liberman-led government. This would ostensibly allow the formation of a government without relying on left-wing or Arab parties. However, Taub argued that while Winter could claim to have prevented a left-wing government, the reality would be different: "It would be a left-wing government because the right would have no real leverage within it," he wrote.
