Mexican TV Reporter and Cameraman Struck by Car During Live Storm Broadcast

A television crew in Monterrey, Mexico, was struck by a vehicle on Friday morning while broadcasting live from the scene of storm damage, in an incident captured on air.

Reporter Alma de la Rosa Flores and cameraman Cristo Morales, both with the local Gamavisión network, had arrived at Morones Prieto Avenue in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León, to cover the aftermath of heavy rains that had battered the area overnight. A landslide had occurred at the site, a tree had fallen across the road, and a motorcyclist had been involved in an accident. The two stood near the roadway, transmitting a live report back to the studio.

As the broadcast continued, a jeep traveling on the rain-slicked road suddenly lost control and veered toward the television crew. Within seconds, the vehicle struck both the reporter and the cameraman, and the camera recorded the collision in real time.

The impact was severe, and the broadcast cut out immediately after the crash. Crew members and bystanders at the scene rushed to assist the two, and emergency responders arrived shortly afterward to evacuate them for medical treatment.

The anchor in the studio was heard saying: "Okay, let's see... come back to me, come back to me. Ah... that... we just witnessed a live accident. They ran over our..."

Later, Flores reported from the hospital that she and her colleague were all right, and thanked those who had inquired after them. She said she had been working in journalism for 35 years, and this was the first incident of its kind she had experienced during a broadcast.

The collision took place against the backdrop of severe weather in Monterrey and other parts of Nuevo León. The rains had caused flooding, landslides, fallen trees and road disruptions, and the crew had come to the field to document precisely those conditions.
