Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing mounting pressure from senior Likud party members to guarantee a Knesset seat for Minister Avi Dichter, who failed to secure a realistic spot in the party's overnight primary elections.
According to a report by Anna Barsky in Maariv, expectations are growing within the party that Netanyahu will invoke an override mechanism available to him as party chairman to move Dichter into a safe position on the Likud list. The push comes amid changes to the party's security leadership following the departure of Yoav Gallant.
Senior Likud figures believe maintaining a prominent security figure like Dichter, a former director of the Shin Bet internal security service, in a winnable slot carries significant electoral importance.
