After all the votes were counted in Likud's primary election and the final results released on Tuesday, reactions poured in from across Israel's political spectrum. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed satisfaction with the outcome, while victorious candidates celebrated and those who fell short reflected on the contest.
A statement from Likud said Netanyahu was "very pleased with the primary results" and congratulated those elected. The party noted that the new slate reflects "renewal and the integration of fresh forces at the top of the list," adding that reserved slots Netanyahu will appoint are expected to strengthen it further.
The statement included a pointed jab at deal-making during the primary campaign: "Prime Minister Netanyahu thanks Likud members who voted with common sense and not according to deals." Netanyahu also thanked candidates who did not secure spots, clarifying his intention to involve them in work ahead of the general election.
