Baruch Dayan HaEmes: Sheffi Paz, one of the leading figures in the struggle for the residents of south Tel Aviv's neighborhoods and a prominent voice in the protest against illegal infiltration into Israel, has passed away. The Otef Tachana Merkazit (Central Station Envelope) organization announced her death.
Paz, the daughter of Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel from Poland in her childhood, devoted her final years to a determined fight for the residents of south Tel Aviv's veteran neighborhoods, for their personal security and their right to live with dignity in their homes.
Since 2013, Paz stood at the forefront of the public struggle, leading demonstrations and protests, and confronting government ministries, ministers, mayors and the courts.
Upon news of her passing, Amalia Ozer, deputy director of the Otef Tachana Merkazit organization, and Yaakov Sela, the organization's spokesman, eulogized her: "Today we lost a courageous leader, a dear friend, and a woman who became a symbol of determination, dedication and love of the land. Sheffi devoted her life to the residents of south Tel Aviv. She was the voice of the invisible people, those who were left behind and forgotten, and she proved time and again that even one person, armed with truth and faith in the justice of their cause, is capable of shaking an entire country."
The organization's leadership added: "Sheffi sought justice for the neighborhood residents, and was not willing to remain silent in the face of injustice. Even when she was persecuted, arrested and sent to prison, she continued to stand upright. Shafi is gone, but her struggle has not ended. We commit to continuing in her path, to fight for south Tel Aviv and to work until we achieve the goals for which she devoted her life. May her memory be blessed."
